After a poignant and emotional leaver’s assembly on Friday 13th June, Year 11 were ready to celebrate their time at Knightsfield with our customary trip to Thorpe Park. As well as being blessed with warm sunny weather, we had a fantastic time together, facing our fears, enjoying the rides, talking, laughing, singing songs and making wonderful memories. Here’s what our Deputy Head Student Izzy had to say about the day:
‘I went to Thorpe Park, with all my friends and three teachers – Mrs Sharma. Mr. Bidwell and Mrs Hazell. We all had so much fun. We had fast passes, so we got to go on all the good rides pretty quickly. It is a day I’ll never forget and all my friends would say the same. I’m grateful for Thorpe Park giving us a day to remember and making all the rides really exciting to the point where we just had to go on them twice! I’m also grateful to our teachers for organising such a treat. One of the best parts was when we were all sitting down together eating lunch and chatting. We realised that this would be the last time that we could do this together. It was filled with laughter, adrenaline, and cherished memories. Thorpe Park was a great place to make funny and memorable memories at’.
On Monday we took students to visit the Arsenal stadium to deliver a deaf awareness presentation to their trainees who may come across deaf children when they are coaching. It is great to be able to reach out into the wider community to spread the word and make as many as possible more deaf aware. In return, our students had a guided tour of the stadium and took part in a coaching session delivered by the trainees.
We think you will agree that this is yet another example of how our teachers are willing to go above and beyond for our students when you look at the sheer joy on Mr Bidwell’s face.
A big thank you to @Arsenal for having us and we are happy to visit other local clubs to make their staff more deaf aware, @watford, @stevenage and @spursofficial.
Pupils had a fantastic week at PGL in the glorious sunshine, where they worked hard at conquering their fears and participating in new activities. Over the week, pupils took part in a variety of activities including disc golf, canoeing, zip wires and survival skills and fire lighting.
We are extremely proud of all our pupils for taking on each new challenge and rising to the occasion…nothing stops them!!
A very well done to everyone involved especially our fabulous staff who work hard to encourage our students to try new things and be the best they can be!
We were delighted that two teams from Knightsfield School had the opportunity to take part in the Deaf England Secondary Panathlon Swimming Gala at the Aquatic Centre, Olympic Park in Stratford on Tuesday 29th January. Pupils had a fantastic day at this prestigious event, taking part in a number of races throughout the day where seven teams in total took part and Knightsfield were awarded 2nd and 4th place! Amazing effort and sporting attitude were demonstrated throughout the day and huge congratulations to all pupils who took part, you are a credit to Knightsfield and we are very proud of you!
We had a brilliant time at Pantomime today. Years 5-8 enjoyed this year’s production of Sleeping Beauty at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City. It was fantastic seeing our children fully engaged, singing, shouting and let’s not forget the booing!! The highlight, had to be the water pistols, towards the end of the performance. A great idea for our own up-and-coming theatre evening………
On 12th November, as part of their RE learning, the Year 8s attended the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Hitchin. Pupils learnt about the history of Sikhism, the 10 Gurus, the 5 Ks and saw the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh Holy Book). Pupils were treated to several hymns played by the granthis (the religious leaders) and afterwards visited the food hall (Langar) for some light refreshments.
On 23rd October, as part of their RE studies, the year 11s attended a trip to Regent’s Park mosque. We learnt about the history of the mosque, visited the vast library and explored the exhibition halls. Pupils were able to enter the prayer hall and learn about Islamic prayer rituals.
On Friday 18th October a number of pupils who are doing an art project to contribute to theatre week visited the Henry Moore Foundation where they sketched and made models of the sculptures.
This will hopefully lead to a collaborative sculpture, which will be the centrepiece of the play.
